Lt Col Paul Sebold, USAF, was selected as the top graduate from National Defense University's Eisenhower School at Ft. McNair, Washington, DC, on June 7th, 2018. Lt Col Sebold studied at St. Petersburg State University in St. Petersburg, Russia as an Olmsted Scholar in the Class of 2007. Lt Col Sebold was awarded an MS in National Resource Strategy, completing an in-depth study of the Information and Communication Technology sector of the world economy. His independent research focused on advances in Chinese surveillance technology and artificial intelligence and involved travel to Silicon Valley, China, and Korea. Lt Col Sebold will now move forward to USEUCOM J5P, Stuttgart to work contingency plans.

COL Joseph Hilbert will put both his leadership and language skills to use as he has recently taken command of the Joint Multinational Readiness Center based at Hohenfels Training Center. COL Hilbert studied at the University of Leipzig as an Olmsted Scholar in the Class of 2003. COL Hilbert most recently was the commander of the 82nd Airborne Division Artillery (DIVARTY) at Ft. Olmsted Scholar CDR Emily Bassett who studied at the University of Cadiz as a member of the Class of 2009 describes the work it took to get the USS Manchester through commissioning which was held on May 26th and ready for service in the Littoral Combat Ship Squadron 1 in the following article. CDR Bassett served as the commanding officer of the USS Manchester through its commissioning.

Olmsted Scholar Lt Col Jamil Musa took command of the 7th Airlift Squadron based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. Lt Col Musa shared his vision of the C-17 as "nothing less than the modern-day manifestation of a bridge—a bridge of violence when used to deliver combat power in southwest Asia and as a bridge of hope when used to support recovery efforts such as those in Puerto Rico." Lt Col Musa looks forward to the tremendous responsibility of serving the brave men and women of the 7th Airlift Squadron, whom he credits with breathing kinetic energy into the C-17 aluminum bridge, therefore, providing a powerful deterrent and force projection capability for our country. Lt Col Musa studied at Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco as a member of the Olmsted Scholar Class of 2011.

Lt Col Elia Hickie recently took command of the 89th Flying Training Squadron at Sheppard AFB, TX. The 89th is a T-6 training squadron in the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program. Lt Col Hickie studied at the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro as a member of the Olmsted Class of 2013, earning a Master's degree in Geography.

LTC Ryan P. Sullivan who studied at Fudan University in Shanghai as a member of the Class of 2018 recently had the honor and privilege of assuming command of 4-2 ARB, 2d Combat Aviation Brigade, USAG Humphreys, South Korea. LTC Sullivan felt it was a humbling experience to return to the place where he began his aviation career 16 years ago. and stated that he is forever grateful to all of those in his network who assisted him throughout his career and studies. Sullivan is looking forward to this next chapter in his career. 같이 갑시다!

Congratulations to CDR Michael Nordeen (OSC 05, St. Petersburg) and CDR Michael D. Wisecup (OSC 07, Mumbai)! Both Scholars have been selected for promotion to Captain by the US Navy. CDR Nordeen is currently a National Security Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. CDR Wisecup is the commander of Special Reconnaissance TEAM ONE in Coronado, CA. Bravo Zulu!

MG Bruce K. Scott, USA, Ret., President and CEO of the Olmsted Foundation, recently presented the Olmsted Foundation award to Cadet Sydney Dewees at the United States Military Academy Awards Convocation for the Class of 2018. Our founder, MG George H. Olmsted, graduated second in his class in 1922 from the United States Military Academy and the Foundation presents this award annually to cadet who graduates second to recognize the alma mater of our founder and the continued academic and military leadership achievements held in high regard by the Olmsted Foundation and the Olmsted Scholar Program. Congratulations to Cadet Sydney Dewees on being the 2018 Olmsted Foundation award winner!

Congratulations to the Olmsted Scholar Class of 2019! The Olmsted Foundation Board of Directors met on March 13, 2018, and selected the following officers to complete the Olmsted Scholar Program and begin language training in the summer of 2018 in preparation for total immersion in their assigned location.
